However, no ReallocatedSectorCt / ReallocatedEventCount / CurrentPendingSector where logged, which seems to indicate no problem on platter side. I would really appreciate any help and hints for the next step to take. LBA is used by some commercial operating system boot loaders. The two logged errors state that your HDD failed read/writing a specific LBA. If the partition table has entry errors, TestDisk can repair them. TestDisk does a quick check of your disks structure and compares it with your partition table for entry errors. (TestDisk sees it as a 2GB HDD, as does the OS) But we know this HDD has previous issues as when it crashed it made a clicking sound. TestDisk queries the BIOS or the OS in order to find the hard disks and their characteristics (LBA size and CHS geometry).

I checked the hardware using Fiona's suggestion for Crystal Disk, but it came back as "health Status = Good", in addition, that software saw the disc as a 1GB volume rather than the 500GB volume that it is. This has the best chance of reallocating those bad sectors, I dont think the Windows.

Since the disk is reporting the wrong size, is there a way to manually enter the disk parameters and have that re-written back to the disk so that it shows the correct size, and thereby enable it to be properly read and rescue files? But I'm not sure how to read all of that or what values to enter. Run the DOS version and make a boot disk like it describes in the instructions and run the EXTENDED TEST.
